Probabl (or :probabl.) is the AI start-up launched at the end of 2023 as a spin-off of scikit-learn and Inria. See Probabl’s launch announcement and Gaël Varoquaux, vedette de l’intelligence artificielle et défenseur du logiciel libre.

Probabl is the official brand operator of scikit-learn, gathering most scikit-learn founders and core developers. It will ensure the sustainability and growth of scikit-learn on the long run.

Scikit-learn is the world’s reference open-source machine learning Python library:

As a result, scikit-learn has been recognized by the French government as an essential asset in its industrial and digital sovereignty. Thus backed by the government, Probabl has a mission to “develop, maintain at the state of art, and sustain a complete suite of open source tools for data science, to benefit France, the EU and the rest of the World.”

While scikit-learn will remain open source, Probabl will develop and commercialize new products built around it to empower data scientists and companies in mastering their entire data lifecycle. Our motto is Own Your Data Science. See Probabl’s teams.

Probabl now has around 35 employees, mostly in France in Paris (office at the Tour Montparnasse). Some people are fully remote. An interesting fact about Probabl as a startup is that it has 14 co-founders: scikit-learn core maintainers mostly from Inria (~10 people), as well as the CEO, CTO, COO, and head of Professional Services.
